Attractions

Luderitz was founded in 1883 by the German merchant Adolf Luderitz. In 1884, the German empire took over and laid the foundation stone for the colony of German South West Africa. Nostalgic Luderitz presents itself today as a very colourful town, due to the lovingly maintained historical buildings.

Trips to all the fascinating sightseeing destinations and attractions in and around Luderitz can be arranged. These include

  1. Kolmanskop - once the centre of Namibia's thriving diamond industry, today a ghost town which is gradually being swallowed by the sands of the Namib.
  2. Bogenfels - a spectacular 55m high rock arch jutting into the Atlantic ocean and on the way the old German diamond digging towns of Pomona, Idatal and Marchental.
  3. Boat trip (weather permitting) to Halifax Island, the home of the Jackass penguin.
  4. Felsenkirche - Church on the rock - built in 1906 and renowned for its beautiful stained glass windows.
  5. The Luderitz museum - a jewel of the past and a must for every visitor.
  6. Bird-watching at the lagoon, where flamingos and large numbers of other marine birds can be seen.
  7. Diaz Cross - a replica of the original cross planted by the Portuguese seafarer, Bartolomew Diaz.
